FAQs

We get asked these questions a lot...

Q: What should I wear to practice/clinic/tryouts?

A: A t-shirt (we recommend long sleeves for diving!), shorts or leggings, kneepads (optional), hair pulled back, and court shoes or non-marking athletic shoes. Please change into your shoes at the gym to help us keep our courts clean. Here are a few links to our favorite volleyball shoes and accessories:

Tryouts & Club Volleyball FAQs

Q: Is it OK if I have a USAV membership in a different region?

A: Yes, that is OK for club tryouts or a clinic, as long as your membership is current. If you are placed on an Northeast club team, we will help you do a quick region transfer after tryouts.

Q. I am young/old for my grade. What’s my age group for club volleyball?

A: Please refer to this helpful chart to determine which age group to try out for. We will occasionally recommend that an athlete move up an age group to keep players in the same grade together or if the directors believe it will benefit the athlete and the team. We will try to keep athletes in the same grade together as much as possible.

Q: What do I need to bring to tryouts?

A: You MUST upload your current 2019-2020 USA Volleyball membership card and signed USA Volleyball medical waiver when you register for tryouts. If you are not able to do so, you must bring a hard copy of your forms to tryouts. You will need these to play at tryouts - No exceptions! We are not set up to handle USAV registrations on-site, so please do this ahead of time. More information and links to these forms are available here.

Q: Do I need to come to both tryout sessions to make a club team?

A: We encourage you to go to both tryouts for your age, as it increases your exposure (and you'll play more volleyball!). If you can't, let us know when you register.

Q: Do I have to register online for tryouts?

A: Yes, online registration is required for tryouts. We will not be able to accept walk-up registrations.

Q: My high school team is still in the state tournament - can I come to your clinic or try out for a club team?

A: No, you cannot attend any club volleyball events if your team is still in the CIAC state tournament; however, we will have tryout sessions after the CIAC state finals. There are some exceptions to these rules in the private and prep school leagues. It is always best to check with your high school coach or AD regarding in-season eligibility questions.

Q: I'm a parent. Can I watch tryouts?

A: Parents and guardians are encouraged to wait in the lobby area of the Four Seasons and may only watch the last ten minutes of their athlete's tryout sessions. The tryout will be closed to staff and athletes only up to that point. Please note that parents and guardians may not go onto the courts or address the court coaches and evaluators at any time during tryouts.

Q: How soon after tryouts will we find out about team placement?

A: We will begin to offer tryouts on the first day of tryouts for the age groups and will continue to form the teams through the makeup tryouts. You will find out no later than 48 hours after the last makeup tryout date for your age group via the email or phone you provided during registration.

Q: I am getting pressured by another club to commit to their team – what should I do?

A: Don’t be pressured; call us first at 203-939-7413! We may not be able to guarantee a spot if tryouts are ongoing, but we believe in transparency throughout this process and will be very honest about where you stand.

Q: Can I attend clinics once I’m placed on a club team?

A: Of course! If you'd like to have another practice day, clinics are a good way to get additional reps and training. We can discuss the best options for you after tryouts.

Payment FAQs

Q: What type of payments do you accept?

A: We accept all major credit cards (except American Express) through our online registration and payment system, which is powered by League Apps. We also accept checks made out to Northeast Volleyball Club or cash as offline payments. Please note that for private or small group training, payment should be made directly to the coach (cash, check, or Venmo).

Q: What is your refund policy?

A: Our refund policy varies for clinics and club programs. Please see this page for more detail.

Q: Can I pay club fees in installments?

A: Yes, in addition to the option of paying in full, we offer payment of four installments of 25% each or two installments of 50% each. The first payment will be due no later than the first practice to guarantee placement on a team.
